Today I went to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The DMZ in Korea is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half; it is 248 km long and approximately 4 km wide.
To get at the DMZ we had to cross 5 layers of security, we went to different parts of the DMZ including the Joint Security Area(JSA. The JSA is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone where South and North Korean forces stand face-to-face. The soldier in the photo above was standing in the building where from time-to-time negotiations are taking place between South and North. Whereas the gray building in the back of the photo at the left side is located in North Korea.I also bought some mini flags to decorate my room. Since my dormitory room still looks quite boring I bought some mini flags at the gift shop of the JSA to decorate my room.
Tomorrow I will try to get my hand on video footage of the DMZ including the JSA. More information about the DMZ can be found here. Keep you posted.
